The Nedbank Running Club (NRC) "Green Dream Team" once again delivered outstanding performances at the African Bank Soweto Marathon on Saturday, November 29, 2025, an event that marked its 30th anniversary. Despite challenging, wet conditions that added a layer of difficulty to the already notoriously tough course, the team celebrated two major wins in the Women’s Marathon and the Men's Half Marathon, alongside multiple top-ten finishes.

History Made as 2026 Comrades Marathon Entries Sell Out in Less Than 10 Hours!

History was made this week when general entries opened for the 2026 Comrades Marathon and the ‘sold out’ sign went up the same day. Entries opened at 10am on Monday 3 November, and the cap of 22,000 was reached just before 8pm, less than 10 hours later! The previous record for entries selling out for an edition of the Comrades Marathon was the three days it took for all 27,000 entries for the 2020 edition to be sold.

The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) is saddened by the sudden passing on Sunday 5 October of Cheryl Winn, the 1982 women’s winner, a former Chair of the CMA Board, and a devoted servant of not only the Comrades Marathon, but the whole sport of road running in South Africa. Jetman Msuthu (Comrades Green Number 7532)

The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) is saddened by the passing earlier this week of former Comrades Marathon winner and Green Number-holder Jetman Msuthu. He completed the Comrades Marathon 14 times between 1988 and 2016, earning three gold medals as well as 10 silvers and one bronze, with his most famous result being the win in 1992. Msuthu passed away on 15 September, in the same week that his wife also passed.

DATE CHANGE: South Africa’s biggest one-day race will be held on 29 November 2025

The 30th edition of “The People’s Race” has been rescheduled to take place on Saturday 29 November 2025 – one day earlier than previously scheduled. The change of date has been granted by the Central Gauteng Athletics Road Commission, courtesy of Mr Mandla Radebe.

Comrades Marathon Announces Athletes’ Seeding for Safer 2025 Start

With just under three weeks to go before the 98th edition of the Comrades Marathon, on Sunday 8 June, The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has completed the process of allocating runners to start groups and seeding batches. Based on their qualifying times, runners have been divided into one of the two starts – Group 1, with Batches A to J, which will start at 5:45am, and Group 2, with Batches K to S, which will start 15 minutes later at 6:00am. There will be approximately 12,500 runners in Group 1, and approximately 10,000 runners in Group 2, while each batch will have around 1500 runners.
