A record-breaking 15 000 participants registered for the Totalsports Women's Race in Cape Town, which featured both 10km and 5km events on Sunday, 9 August 2026. Stillwater Sports hit full capacity with this sold-out crowd taking over the city streets in pink, running from Darling Street to the Grand Parade in a fitting tribute to National Women's Day. It was the second leg of a three-city Women's Month series that opened in Durban on 2 August, won by Lesotho's Neheng Khatala in 32:06, and moves on to Johannesburg next weekend, 16 August.

Kenya's Daisilah Jerono, currently ranked seventh in the world over the half marathon off the back of a 1:05:21 run in Berlin, claimed victory in her South African racing debut in a time of 31:29, ahead of compatriot Faith Cherono and Lesotho's Neheng Khatala, who rounded out the elite podium. Participants and supporters were treated to a live performance from Busiswa, with the day also raising awareness and support for PinkDrive's breast cancer initiatives.

Nedbank Running Club WPA was well represented across the field. Six of our ladies finished inside the Open Women's Top 20: Nicole van Wyk was 6th in 37:43, Deanne Laubscher 7th in 38:07, Heidi de Jager 12th in 39:33, Rolandi Schutte 17th in 41:07, Elme Middlemost 19th in 42:05, and Tanya Posthumus-Fox 20th in 42:18.

The club also featured on the age-category podiums. Rolandi Schutte claimed 3rd in the W40-49 division in 41:07, and Charmaine Cupido finished 2nd in the W70-79 division in 57:04. A proud green showing on National Women's Day.

Evander Race

There's no better symbol of Women's Day than a mother and daughter sharing a podium. At the Evander Race, Chrizell Roberts claimed the 21km title, while her daughter Melinda finished 3rd in the Junior category over 10km - two generations of the same family, both in green, both on the podium on the same day.

Maebela Foundation Women's Day Race, Hammanskraal

Nedbank athletes dominated the podiums at the Maebela Foundation Women's Day Race in Hammanskraal. Stephen Ngigi Kangethe claimed overall victory in the 21.1km in a new course record of 1:04:56, with Robert Kiprotich Chelang'a taking the men's veteran title in the same distance in 1:11:46. Mary Njambi Njuguna finished 3rd lady overall in 1:22:17, while Dalene Sonnekus claimed the women's masters title in 1:48:49.

All Athletes United, 10km

Thabang Mathosa finished 2nd overall in the men's race, Anna Moeketsi took the 1st 40+ woman title, and 14-year-old Karabo Monyaki was 1st junior and 5th lady overall.

Old Eds Road Race

The 39th running of the Old Eds Road Race, co-hosted with Morningside Runners and the first leg of this year's Johannesburg Vitality Run Series, produced a big green haul over 21.1km. Lucky Mohale claimed a double podium, finishing 3rd overall and 1st in his age category (M40-49) in 1:09:05, with clubmate Albert Kangor 2nd in the M40-49 category in 1:11:12. In the M50-59 category, Barry Chapman was 3rd in 1:29:55. On the women's side, Mapaseka Makhanya was 2nd in the W40-49 category in 1:30:12. In the 10km, Tebogo Mokgosinyane was 2nd overall and 1st Veteran in 41:46.

Ethekwini-Sisonke Women in Sport Challenge, 10km

Fikile Mbuthuma finished 2nd in the W40-49 age category - a great Women's Month showing for the club.

NMB EPA Cross Country Championships

Nedbank Running Club EPA had a huge medal haul at the Nelson Mandela Bay EPA Cross Country Championships, with a season-topping tally of 21 medals across the age groups. Andile Motwani was 3rd in the SM 10km (32:00) and 2nd in the SM 4km (12:23), while Refeloe Solomons completed a double of her own, winning both the SF 10km (39:27) and the SF 4km (15:08). In the men's age groups, Mzolisi Makhanda was 2nd in 40-44M (27:23) just ahead of clubmate Thulani Mdlalo in 3rd (27:43). Xolile Ndingane won the 50-54M category in 28:30, and August Esau took the 55-59M title in 32:50, with clubmate Luvuyo Stephen 3rd in the same category (39:08). Christopher Mabengeza was 2nd in 60-64M (24:20), Jan van Eeden won 65-69M (28:19), Raymond Weitz was 2nd in 70-74M (29:05), and Eddie Eades won the 75+M category (19:49) ahead of clubmate Don Charles in 3rd (20:50).

On the women's side, Babalwa Ngcoko won 35-39F in 19:06, Liza-Marie Kingston took the 40-44F title in 15:37, Siena de Vos was 2nd in 45-49F (20:44), Liezel van Zyl won 50-54F in 17:36, and Christine Claasen won 60-64F in 18:11 with Thandi Nkwandla 2nd in the same category (22:29).

Nyandeni Women's Day Road Race

Siyamthanda Bazana finished 3rd overall in the 21.1km, crossing the line in 1:11:46.

Overtakers Women's Day Half Marathon

Nedbank RC Border had a stand-out day in East London, with Siyabulela Madlavana taking the men's 50-59 category in 1:26:33, ahead of clubmate Christophe Bernardie in 1:26:46. Effe Mayo led the club's women, winning the 35-39 category in 1:48:28. In the junior ranks, Luthando Tyinkana finished 2nd in 1:17:04 and Mbasa Nyathani 3rd in 1:20:53.

Elvis Brew 2 Brew, George - 12km

It was a green sweep at the Elvis Brew 2 Brew 12km in George on Monday, 10 August, organised by our own Nedbank Running Club SWD. Nedbank took all three steps of the Open Male podium: Lloyd Bosman took the win in 35:16, with Selwyn Matthews 2nd in 36:06 and Bruce Maboza 3rd in 36:10. Luciano Squire won the Junior Male category in 40:16, with clubmate Pietersen Khanyiso 2nd in 42:11, and Patrick Basson was 3rd in the 60+ Male category in 1:01:04. In the Walkers, Nedbank Running Club SWD swept the podium again: Durando Awenes 1st (1:06:53), Ernst Van Zyl 2nd (1:14:13), and Johan Nieman 3rd (1:23:40).

On the women's side, Carla Spangenberg was 2nd in the Open category in 46:41.9, with Nerida Lubbe 3rd in 49:54.9 and 1st in the W50-59 age category. Annatjie Botes was 1st in W60-69 in 56:52 alongside Kezia Matthysen, who also won the Junior Female category in 51:19. In the Walkers, Marianna Van Zyl won the women's category in 1:24:10.

Bluff Marathon 2026

A big call to the whole Nedbank Running Club family: let's get behind the Bluff Marathon on Sunday, 29 November 2026, proudly sponsored by our own Nedbank Running Club stalwart Mark Leathers and McNaught & Co, and hosted by Bluff Athletic Club. It's also a Comrades Marathon qualifier, so a great one to add to the calendar. Races start and finish at Fynnlands Combined Sports Club, 55 Smith Drive, Bluff, with 42km, 21km and 10km distances on offer, prize money up to R25 000 for the marathon winners, and medals for every finisher.

Entries opened 1 August 2026 at www.eventtiming.info. There's an extra incentive to enter early: every Nedbank Running Club member who enters before manual registration weekend (28 November) goes into a lucky draw for a substantial reward. Spread the word!

Nedbank Running Club Fun Run

Nedbank Running Club Fun Run returns on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, hosted together with Kollegepark Primary School. The 2.5km and 5km fun run/walk starts at 17h30 from Kollegepark Primary School, with entry fees of R40 (2.5km) and R50 (5km). There are lucky draw prizes on the day and medals for every finisher. This one's for our ladies. To every Nedbank Running Club woman who laced up this Women's Month - on a start line in Cape Town, a podium in Hammanskraal, a finish chute in George, or anywhere in between - thank you. You are the reason this month means something beyond the calendar date. Thank you to the mothers who ran alongside their daughters, the veterans still setting the pace for the rest of us, the club members who organise, coach, cheer and show up week after week, and every young girl watching from the sidelines and learning what's possible. The 1956 marchers walked so that South African women could stand exactly where you stood this weekend - on top of the podium, in the record books, and at the front of the pack. Keep running strong, keep running green, and here's to the upcoming weekend that carries this same energy forward.
