SPAR WOMEN'S GRAND PRIX – DURBAN

The second leg of the 2026 SPAR Women's Grand Prix Series took place along Durban's iconic beachfront on Sunday, 28 June, where Nedbank Running Club once again produced world-class performances in ideal winter racing conditions.

Selam Gebre led the Green Team with a superb runner-up finish in 31:45, crossing the line just behind race winner Tayla Kavanagh. Fellow Green Dream Team athlete Loveness Madziva also delivered an excellent performance, securing 10th place overall in 35:11.

The club also celebrated impressive age-category success as Dalene Sonnekus claimed 2nd place in the W60-69 category in 43:55, while Ezna Flattery completed the podium with 3rd place in 45:01.

ASA CHAMPIONSHIPS – GQEBERHA

Nedbank Running Club athletes once again showcased their class at the ASA Championships held in Gqeberha on Saturday, 27 June 2026. With the Nelson Mandela Bay Half Marathon incorporating the ASA Half Marathon Championships, alongside the ASA 5km and ASA 1 Mile Championships, Green Team athletes delivered outstanding performances across the board.

Leading the charge was Namibia's Lavinia Haitope, who claimed victory in the women's half marathon in an impressive 1:12:36, while teammate Bize Beyira Negasa of Ethiopia secured 3rd place overall in 1:13:42. Thabang Masiheleho (AFS) added to the medal tally with 3rd place in the Men 35-39 category, while Kelly van Vliet (EPA) finished 2nd in the Women 35-39 division. Este van Tonder (AFS) and Refeloe Solomons (EPA) enjoyed a superb outing in the Women 40-49 category, finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively, and Margie Saunders rounded off the championship podium performances with victory in the Women 70+ category.

At the ASA 5km Championships, Riaan Wildschutt (WPA) claimed the Men 40-49 national title in an impressive 15:33, while Joshua Schouw (WPA) secured 3rd place in the U20 Boys at the ASA 1 Mile Championships in a time of 4:21.

NRC GEORGE, SWD | PALM TYRES 10KM

It was a phenomenal morning for Nedbank Running Club George at the Palm Tyres 10km in George, with the Green Team producing an outstanding display across both the open and age category divisions.

Lloyd Bosman led a clean sweep of the Open Men's podium, taking victory in 30:24 ahead of teammates Bruce Maboza (2nd) and Austin Koopman (3rd). Denray Esau added a runner-up finish in the Junior Men category, while Robert Welsh (50-59), Johan Grobbelaar (60-69) and John Pywell (80+) all claimed victories in their respective age categories. The walkers also enjoyed success, with Durando Averies taking the win and Timotheas Markgraaf finishing 2nd.

The Green Team's women were equally impressive, sweeping the Open Women's podium as Cindy Viljoen claimed victory ahead of Nerida Lubbe in 2nd and Anel van Wyk in 3rd. Kezia Matthysen secured 2nd place in the Junior Women category, while Anel van Wyk added another victory in the Women 40-49 division. Nerida Lubbe claimed the Women 50-59 title, with Karen Nel finishing 2nd, while Annatjie Botes and Annaelie Botha secured 1st and 2nd respectively in the Women 60-69 category. Kim Roberts rounded off the podium performances with 2nd place in the Women 70-79 division.

 

NRC CAPE TOWN 

MAMRE HALF MARATHON

Charmaine Cupido continued her remarkable consistency by claiming victory in the Women 70+ category at the Mamre Half Marathon, adding yet another age-category title to an already successful season.

 

WPA CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE 4

The Green Team continued its impressive Cross Country campaign at WPA Cross Country League 4 with another outstanding day of racing across the senior and masters divisions.

Kobie Griffiths claimed victory in the Senior Women's 4km, while Hannelie Lötter won the W40-44 category. The W45-49 women once again enjoyed a strong showing, with Anneline Roffey taking the win and Lee-Anne Pienaar securing 3rd place.

The men's squad also impressed, with Sikhanyiso Majeke claiming victory in the Senior Men's 10km, while Marcelino Booysen earned a bronze medal in the Senior Men's 4km race.

 

NRC GAUTENG NORTH AND NRC AVT | SHE MOVES SA 10KM

Nedbank Running Club also featured prominently at the She Moves SA 10km, where Megan Waller produced a strong performance to finish 6th overall and claim victory in the Junior category. Frances van Blerk added to the Green Team's success by winning the Women 70-79 category, securing another podium finish for Nedbank Running Club.

The Green Team once again celebrated podium success in Johannesburg, continuing another memorable week of racing.

 

NRC ZIMBABWE | MUTARE 10KM & TANGANDA HALF MARATHON

Nedbank Running Club Zimbabwe once again showcased its strength as athletes dominated the podiums at both the Mutare 10km and Tanganda Half Marathon.

Outstanding podium performances came from Moses Tarakinyu, Wellington Warevi, John Payarira, Anne Chirisa, Phillipa Dube, Tryfina Picado and Patients Murove, with the Green Team once again making its presence felt throughout the competition.

 

LOOKING AHEAD

The excitement continues as entries are now open for the 35th Race Through the Orchards, taking place on Saturday, 15 August 2026 at Halls Gateway. Hosted in the picturesque Lowveld, the event offers a 21.1km Half Marathon, 10km and 4.9km Fun Run, promising another memorable day of racing through the scenic orchards.
