The 2025 Pirates 21K Powered by Medshield, nicknamed Joburg’s toughest half, has attracted some of the best runners that Nedbank Running Club has to offer. Offering excellent preparation for the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon later this year, the climb up to Northcliff Hill is set to challenge not only the elite but every runner brave enough to take it on. With a course record of 1:07:13 in the men and 1:18:00 in the women, our contenders are set to race hard to see if the Green Team can claim the top spots.

Introduced in 2008, the label ensures that there is a parity of standards for ultra marathon races throughout the world. It also means that in the upcoming Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon 2025, all continental and international records, along with elite personal best performances, will be officially recognized by the IAU and World Athletics.

The Athletics South Africa (ASA) Marathon Championship was held in conjunction with the Balwin Sport Peninsula Marathon for the first time in the event’s 57-year history. This prestigious race, known for its scenic but challenging point-to-point route, saw nearly 6,000 runners toe the line in Green Point, Cape Town. The flat course, coupled with extremely windy conditions, took athletes across the Cape Peninsula, concluding 42.2 km later at the Simon’s Town Naval Base Sports Ground.
