Weekly Performance Wrap-Up
It was another exceptional weekend for the Nedbank Running Club as our athletes delivered great performances across road, trail, and cross-country disciplines. From record-breaking veteran runs to the emergence of junior talent, the Green Dream Team kit was worn with pride.
Jackie Mekler Memorial Race
The club’s female athletes set a high standard at the Jackie Mekler Memorial Race. In the ten-kilometer event, Emily Chauke secured a win, crossing the finish line in first place with a time of 41:45. She was followed closely by Kai Hattingh, who earned the second place spot on the podium in 44:26. Rounding out the top three was Dalene Sonnekus, who finished in third place overall with a time of 44:33.
Modderfontein Half Marathon
At the Modderfontein Half Marathon, the club’s distance runners navigated a challenging course to secure top-ten finishes. In the men's half marathon race, Kabelo Melamu ran to take sixth place in a time of 01:13:06. The women’s half marathon saw a brilliant display of front-running, as Rosina Kiboino claimed first place with a time of 01:27:22, while Tebogo Mokgosinyane followed her to take second place in 01:31:26. In the men's ten-kilometer division, Simon Levin finished in seventh place with a time of 44:12.
Volkswagen Health Run and Regional Records
The Volkswagen Health Run in the Eastern Province produced one of the weekend's most significant highlights. Refeloe Solomons led the race in the women’s 21km, securing first place in 01:23:34. She was joined on the podium by Kelly Van Vliet, who finished in third place in 01:24:58, while Nge Williams and Kerri-Lee Barnard secured sixth place and seventh place respectively. In the men's race, Andile Motwani crossed the line in fourth place with a time of 01:06:44, and Andre Ketchem followed in seventh place in 01:08:55.
The event was further distinguished by a historic performance from Margie Saunders. Saunders successfully broke her own existing Eastern Province and South African record for the half marathon distance. Improving on her previous mark of 01:37:43, she set a new record by finishing in 01:36:55.
Trail & Track
The club’s versatility was on full display away from the road. At the Monaghan Farm Trail race, Thabang Madiba showcased his technical skill by claiming second place. In the junior ranks, Khanyisani Khumalo showed great promise by finishing in third place in the Under-Thirteen Street Mile held in Kagiso. Additionally, our members turned out in full force for the first Cross Country League of the season, marking a spirited start to the winter series.
