Dominance on the Road: Loskop and Outeniqua

At the prestigious Loskop Marathon Series, the men’s 50km ultra-marathon saw a showcase of endurance. Collin Kanyimo secured a brilliant second place finish with a time of 02:51:46, followed by teammate Promise Masivuye Msitshana in fifth (02:54:04) and Charles Soza in eighth (03:06:17). In the 21.1km distance, Skye Barker represented the women’s contingent with a fifth place finish, crossing the line in 01:44:42.

Further south, the Outeniqua Marathon proved to be a gold mine for the club. Lloyd Bosman claimed victory in the 42.2km men’s race with a time of 02:36:03. The women’s marathon was equally successful, with Carla Spangenberg taking the top spot in 03:09:09, while Cindy Viljoen and Hanlie Schamrel secured eighth and ninth places respectively.

The half-marathon saw a clean sweep of the podium as Selwyn Matthews claimed first, Bruce Maboza second, and Luciano Squire third locking out the top three spots, with Durando Awenes finishing 10th. Melissa Van Rensburg added to the tally with a second place finish in the women’s 21.1km. 

The 10km men's field was heavily influenced by the Green Dream Team, led by Austin Koopman, who secured second place in 00:30:41. He was joined on the podium by Francois Maquassa, who claimed third place with a time of 00:38:57.5. The club’s dominance continued throughout the top ten, with Lerato Maseko finishing fourth in 00:41:57.6 and Akeen Wilson taking fifth place in 00:42:03.0. Rounding out the club's impressive presence in the race were Denray Esau and Anslin Saaiman, who earned eighth and ninth places with times of 00:43:08.9 and 00:43:42.1, respectively.

Excellence in the Vaal and Beyond
 

The Vaal Triangle Marathon provided another platform for our women to shine. In the full marathon, Noreen Rautenbach and Helené Van Rooyen secured second and third places respectively, with Brenche Van Den Berg finishing ninth.

The 21.1km race saw a complete Nedbank takeover of the women's podium, with Karin-Mari Dötze taking first, followed by Kimara Solms in second and Lauren Kruger in third. Pule Sibeko second and Albert Kangor fourth performed admirably in the men's half-marathon.

In the 10km, Megan Waller claimed victory in 00:37:47, while Rearabetswe Mokoena and Tanya Saayman both secured top-ten positions.

Regional successes continued at the Gazamed 4-in-1 Marathon, where Given Makgoba and Mosa Thuketana secured a first and second finish in the 21.1km, supported by Kobo Makwena in fourth and Itumeleng Mahlo in seventh. Jane Mudau rounded out the effort with a ninth place finish.

At the Kuruman Freedom Run, Bakang Kgokong took a brave second place in the 42.2km in 02:40:03, while Luthando Tyinkana finished seventh in the OMAC Freedom To Run 21km.

International Triumphs and Provincial Honours

 

Our athletes made significant waves on the international stage this weekend. A massive congratulations goes to Florence Kemunto Nyaingiri, who won the Joshua Nkomo Peace Marathon in Zimbabwe with a stellar personal best of 2:37:10. In Botswana, Rosina Jepkoskei Kiboino displayed great form to take second place at the Diacore Gaborone Marathon in 2:56:09.

Back home, at the SportSA Paarl 10km, Zintle Xiniwe (Open Women), Hannelie Lotter (W40-49), and Charmaine Cupido (W70-79) all secured impressive silver medals in their respective categories. The club also left a mark at the Mangwau Marathon, where Esté van Tonder claimed victory as the first Lady overall and first in the 40+ category. Chabeli Nyelimane also tasted success here, winning the 40+ category in the 21.1km.

Finally, at the Free State 5km and 10km Championships, our juniors and veterans alike showed their speed. Esté van Tonder continued her winning streak by taking the first overall spot in the 5km and second overall (1st in 40+) in the 10km. Thabang Mathosa took second in the 10km, while junior stars Dineo Dithakono (1st Junior/3rd Overall) and Moleboheng Mohapi (2nd Place) dominated the 5km. Leeleereenne van Rooyen also impressed with a second place overall and first junior finish in the 1.6km race.

The weekend’s results serve as a reminder of the depth of talent in the Green Dream Team. Whether it was the seasoned veterans dominating their age categories or our rising juniors showcasing the future of South African athletics, the Green Team’s presence was felt on every podium. Well done to all our athletes, your hard work continues to set the gold standard.
