Our international presence remained formidable as the Nedbank Running Club Zimbabwe celebrated Moses Tarakinyu’s victory in the 21km distance. Additionally, Tatenda Hove secured a third-place finish at the ZRP Golf Club race, further solidifying the club's reputation for smart, high-performance racing. This momentum continued at the Galleria Mall Half Marathon Challenge, where Nokuthula Dladla Ntshangase and Nonhle Dlamini claimed the top two positions, finishing in 01:29:08 and 01:33:08 respectively.
At the LCE Weskus, club members featured prominently across all distances. In the 42km marathon, Pumzile Mzingana placed 8th in the Open Men’s category with a time of 2:46:42, while Elmé Middlemost and Angela Dell took 5th and 6th in the Open Women’s field. Heidi de Jager delivered a standout performance to win the Open Women’s 21km in 1:24:17, and Boy Makutu earned a top-ten finish in the 10km, placing 9th in 39:29. Meanwhile, at the Mooo'se Race, Albert Kangor took the 21.1km title with a controlled finish of 01:12:44.
The Kosmos 3-in-1 proved to be a test of endurance and speed. In the grueling 73.3km challenge, Charles Soza finished 6th for the men in 04:47:49, while Chrizell Roberts secured 3rd for the women in 05:32:02. Kate van Jaarsveld added to the club’s victory tally by winning the 21km event in 01:31:00. Success continued at the Qubeka 10km, where Shanice Peens took 1st place and Kara Beytell followed in 3rd. Beytell also notably secured the 1st place position in the Junior category.
International talents Sophy Masai and Winny Biwott made impressive South African debuts at the Motsepe Foundation races. Masai earned 3rd place in the 10km event, while Biwott matched that achievement with a 3rd place finish in the 21.1km half marathon. These results highlight the club’s ability to attract and support elite athletes on the continental stage.
The Western Cape High Schools Championships, held from March 13–15 at Coetzenburg Stadium, showcased the future of the club. Under the guidance of Coach Ashley Smith, our Junior Development group secured five medals despite extreme heat. Luke Rudolph earned two silver medals in the U14 800m (2:01 PB) and 1500m (4:14 PB), while Devonty Jacobs finished 9th in the 1500m. In the U17 category, Joshua Schouw took silver in the 3000m with an 8:30 PB, and Reagan Freeman secured silver in the 1500m (3:59 PB) alongside a 4th place finish in the 800m. Jordan Kiewiets rounded out the tally with a bronze in the 2000m Steeplechase. These young athletes now await official selection for the South African Schools Athletics Championships in Rustenburg this April.
The Nedbank Running Club remains committed to maintaining this high standard of excellence across all age groups and disciplines. These collective successes, from the developmental ranks to our international elite, are a testament to the hard work of our athletes and the technical expertise of our coaching staff. We look forward to seeing our representatives continue to carry this momentum into the South African Schools Athletics Championships and upcoming national road races. Congratulations to every Green Dream Team member who competed this weekend; your dedication continues to define the club as a leader in the sporting community.
