July 28, 2025
The F21 Foskor Half Marathon 2025 doubled as the South African Half Marathon Championships this past weekend in Phalaborwa.

It was Nedbank Running Club’s very own Thabang Mosiako - running in the colours of Athletics Central North West -  who stole the show, racing to a victory in 1:02:47.1 to become the new South African Half Marathon Champion. Mosiako crossed the line with a winning margin of just over a minute.

Namakoe Nkhasi, running for Nedbank Lesotho, finished second overall in 1:04:00. Although not eligible for the SA title, his result added to the strong showing by Nedbank athletes on the day.

Running in Athletics Central North West colours, Onalenna Khonkhobe, part of the Nedbank elite squad and one of the Comrades 2025 frontrunners, finished 4th overall and was the third South African across the line in the championship race, clocking 1:04:16.7. Showing Khonkhobe's speed work is back on track after the Comrades Marathon.

Defending Foskor champion Lucky Mohale placed 8th in 1:06:04.2. While not in contention for this year’s title, his presence added to the strength of the Nedbank field with a top-10 finish.

Kabelo Melamu, running in Central Gauteng Athletics colours, placed 9th overall and was another top-10 championship finisher from the Nedbank team, crossing the line in 1:06:06.

International recruit Thomas Esito Ekiru of Kenya, also running under the Nedbank banner, completed the race in 1:08:42.2, placing third in his age category of 40-49 years.

In the women’s race, Debrah Cherotich, representing Nedbank Running Club Kenya, placed third overall in 1:13:50.4, securing a podium position for the Nedbank Running Club in the women’s field.

Samantha Coetzer, competing in Central Gauteng colours, finished 8th overall in the women’s race with a time of 1:22:25.1, placing 3rd in the South African Half Marathon Championships. Still early in her career, Coetzer is a promising young athlete.

“I was so surprised, I was gathering up my belongings to leave when they called my name. My world was standing still for a moment. I am super ecstatic,” says Coetzer.

Helene Van Rooyen, running in Athletics Vaal Triangle colours finished second in her age category of 40-49 years.

The Nedbank Running Club once again delivered top results at a national championship, highlighting their talent across both men’s and women’s fields.
