Nedbank LVCC Running Club presents TRACN4 Elands Marathon
May 4, 2022
The Nedbank LVCC running club is proud to announce itself as the presenting partner to the TRACN4 Elands Marathon which takes place this Saturday in Ngodwana, Mpumalanga. The event which serves as a Comrades Marathon qualifier will also have a half marathon and 10km run alongside it.

The marathon is one of the quickest in the country, and normally run on the first weekend of November, was brought forward this year to enable Comrades runners a chance to get in their qualifying time. From the start at Laerskool Oosterlijn in Emgwenya at 06:30, the route makes its way down to the Sappi Skills Training Centre. Starting at 1468m above sea level, the finish at 931m above sea level shows just how fast it is.

The marathon will be paying the top 5 men and women with R4000 going to the victors whilst the half marathon and 10km pays top 3 with R2000 going to the winner in the half and R1000 going to the winner in the 10km. In addition to this, prizes will be given out courtesy of our valuable club sponsors Future Life, Bavaria SA, Biogen, THIRSTI Water and Nike.

“As a club we are looking forward to this quick course that each year has helped many athletes qualify for the Comrades Marathon,” said Nick Bester, National team manager of the Nedbank Running Club. “We are grateful to our amazing club sponsors who have also come on board with prizes to giveaway and we look forward to a great event on Saturday morning.”

The event has been limited to 2000 entries and entries have been fulling up fast. The 21.1km will start at the Malaga Hotel on the N4, while the 10km will start at the Sappi Skills Training Centre where it and the 21.1km event will end. “The number of entries we received in such a short space of time was astounding and points towards a great race on the weekend,” said Mandla Nxumalo from the Nedbank LVCC Running Club.

With South Africa still on Covid-19 adjusted alert Level 1, strict Covid-19 protocols will be adhered to throughout the race. Although this may change if the national state of emergency is lifted before race day, the protocols are as follows:

* Runners will be set off in batched groups.

* Masks will be required on busses and at the race’s start and finish.

* Waterpoints will be managed according to Covid-19 regulations.

* A tog bag collection point will be available at the start and will be transported to the finish.
