Siyaya Khoza, Manager of the Nedbank Running Club Soweto team was ecstatic with the news and extremely proud of his team and their accomplishments. According to Siyaya, Liza Kellerman was outstanding at the Championships. Liza bagged 2 gold medals in the 800m and 1 500m youth girls with times of 2:12 and 4:31 respectively. The time in the 800m makes her a qualifier in the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Youth Camps. The qualifying standards from Athletics South Africa should be received soon.

Another exceptional athlete on the day was last year’s World Champs finalist, Tumisang Monnatlala. He shone in the Steeplechase for men U/23.

Other medals brought home include 2nd place for the 800m Boys (17) – Thato Masimi, 2nd place for the 800m Boys (15) – Thabo Shabangu, 3rd place for the 5000m and 10000m Men (23) – Thato Tsotesti and 2nd place in the 10000m Men (23) – Tshepo Majwafi.

“It was an impressive performance for all our athletes including our sprinters,” says Siyaya.
