Antonette running for Hospice - Day 15 FINAL DAY!
March 15, 2014
An emotional day and "now the healing can be completed"
15 Days - 650km!
Started at 5.30am in Montagu - leg hurting from yesterday and the day before, me and Nelius walked for about 6km until it got light. I then ran on to meet my running buddy, Dalinda Feuth, who took the road to Robertson wit...h us. It all went well up until the last 9/10km - then the leg just did not want to run anymore. Someone once told me unless you throw up or faint, you keep going forward. And that is what we did. Dalinda and Nelius at my side. Then nearer Robertson the Hospice team members joined me as well. Emotion was high. Not sure if it was from the pain in my leg or from knowing that the end is near and the final goodbye had to be said. Once I saw the familiar faces of family and friends just past the Robertson Round About, it was impossible to hold back the tears. Now it's all on autopilot. It seemed like forever to get to the school. The motorbike escort was a welcome distraction from all the emotion. Then I was at the school. The kids were lined up on both sides of the entrance and I managed to run the few paces to the HOSPICE banner finish.
It is going to take me a little while to make sense of this whole thing, and all that has happened. But two things specifically took my attention today: First a young girl, with lovely long dark blonde hair gave me R15 from her little white and pink purse. I need to find out what her name is, the second was the spontaneous hugs from all the kids. It was the most amazing feeling being hugged from all sides seeing these lovely faces looking up at me. So much potential is locked in these little people.
I will write to you again - all I can say now - Thank you Breede River Hospice for your caring and for looking after Mum. Now the heeling can be completed ...
