Running is so symbolic of life. You must drive yourself to overcome the obstacles. You might feel that you cannot. but then you find your inner strength, and realize you’re capable of so much more than you thought” – Arthur Blank

Nedbank Running Club Vaal Triangle clubhouse at Kollege Park Primary school (Glanville street) Vanderbilpark

We want to invite all our members to enjoy this last newsletter of 2025 with us. We really hope that 2025 was as special for you as it was for us. Another year full of highlight’s and performances in all spheres of our athletics. We can really look forward to a great and eventful 2026. Our club was once again as in the past few years, the biggest club in the Vaal Triangle and our athletes were part of teams representing AVT province at National Championships. Not only did they represent AVT, but they also had a big say in medals won for AVT at these championships.

With great sadness to the club Louis Boshoff, our vice-chairperson, decided to re-locate to Ballito in KZN. He therefore ended his membership with Nedbank Running Club in Vanderbijlpark. We really want to wish Louis and his wife the absolute best in the new chapter of their life. We want to thank Louis for all his valuable contributions during his involvement at the club.

Braam Botes the chairperson of the Masters category also decided to step down from management due to his work responsibilities. We also want to thank Braam for all the contributions he made towards the club. Braam will stay on as member of our club due to his Honorary membership.

We want to welcome Hermie Rossouw on the management team in the place of Braam as the Masters chairperson. Thank you Hermie and we know you will make valuable contributions towards the club. Hermie is a member of our club for many years and he knows the ins and outs of the club. I (Johan Strydom) will serve as interim vice-chairperson in the place of Louis Boshoff till we get someone else to fill his shoes.

We want to thank Nedbank and all our sponsors for the continuous support we received in 2025 which allow all our athletes to compete at the highest level. Without this support it would be difficult to achieve the results that we have achieved in 2025. We as Nedbank Running Club Vanderbijlpark promise to keep on making you proud where we compete in our beloved green in 2026.

Just to comment on our attire. We all signed the Code of Conduct where it is stipulated that we must wear the correct attire, especially the shorts, during all events we compete at. We do see that our athletes wear black shorts when competing and we really want to urge all of you to get green shorts when competing.

Gerda Pretorius and Salome Naude handle all club related enquiries as well as all running gear. The contact number for Gerda is 072 209 9906. Gerda and/or Salome  will be available every Tuesday at the clubhouse from 17:00.

We as management hope that you enjoy our newsletter and if you want to share information or an article to be published, please feel free to send it to my email address namely johanstr2@gmail.com. It would be much appreciated as this is the monthly newsletter of all our members. If you want to share results, as many already do, please feel free to send it to my WhatsApp number 083 651 5170 as well. Looking forward to share some “good feel” stories in the newsletter.

Time Trials – Harry Marx

We want to invite ALL members, including new members, to come and join us every Tuesday at 17:15 for the Time Trials. Let us all make a big effort in 2026 and commit to attend more time trials in 2026.

Come and experience the company of fellow members for a 2,4,6 and 8km run, even a 1km and 10km run will be accommodated. The course is properly marked to prevent participants from getting lost and it is very safe. Walkers are also more than welcome to come and join. Renaldo Jansen made a slight change in the route because of part of the course which was bad to run on. New route was tested, and participants are satisfied with the change. Please come and join us and experience this with fellow members. Time Trials are important to measure your progress from week to week and we can see in the results how participants better themselves on a weekly basis.

The race for the most loyal participant of the time trials for 2025 is getting hotter by the week with two of our members chasing each other for that honor. With only one Time Trial left for 2025, a shortlist of the top five was established and the last Time Trial will not have that big effect on these top five. The top five for 2025 are in no specific order as follows:

Renaldo Jansen

Ntumelo Mathebula

Paulus Mofokeng

Sampie Mokgatla

Tsietsi Mokoena

And the winner of the most loyal participant for 2025 is….???

Please remember our yearend “Boerie Roll” and juice after our last time trial for 2025, this coming Tuesday, 9 December 2025 at the clubhouse. Come and join us to celebrate a successful year of time trials. As requested, please let me know via WhatsApp if you are going to attend.

AVT won 3 individual Gold medals and 1 Relay Gold medal during the championships and Nedbank had 2 of the individual and 2 of our athletes had part in the Relay Gold medal.

AVT won 4 Silver medals and Nedbank athletes won 2 of those medals.

If we look at the leagues, the number of AVT Champions from our club and the results of the ASA Championships, it shows a dominance performance from the Nedbank athletes in the Vaal Triangle.

Everyone associated with Nedbank can truly be proud of these performances.

Nedbank Track and Field casual shirts

We have decided to give a free casual shirt for our Track and Field athletes and the athletes love this shirt. Some of them told me that they like it so much they even sleep in it. Here are pictures showing our athletes wearing it

I think everyone will agree that we have the most friendly and happy club in the country. If you see all the smiles then you will agree that it is a sign of happiness. We as management were glad to bring the smiles to our members faces and we promise to keep on doing everything possible to make our members proud of our club. We have even achieve to get brothers and sisters to smile together on a photo.
