Nedbank Running Club Vaal Triangle clubhouse at Kollege Park Primary school (Glanville street) Vanderbilpark

First, we want to welcome members who have already registered at the club for 2025, especially new members who have joined us since our last newsletter. We trust that you all have a wonderful experience with Nedbank Running Club in 2025. Winter is upon us again and our wish is that you stay healthy during the coming months.

We want to say once again thank you to Nedbank and all our sponsors for continuous support which allow athletes to compete at the highest level. Without this support it would be difficult to achieve the same and even better results than what we had achieved in 2024. We as Nedbank Running Club Vanderbijlpark promise to keep on making you proud where we compete in our beloved green.

Gerda Pretorius and Salome Naude handle all club related enquiries as well as all running gear. The contact number for Gerda is 072 209 9906. Gerda and/or Salome  will be available every Tuesday at the clubhouse from 17:00.

We as management hope that you enjoy our newsletter and if you want to share information or an article to be published, please feel free to send it to my email address namely johanstr2@gmail.com. It would be much appreciated as this is the monthly newsletter of all our members. If you want to share results, as many already do, please feel free to send it to my WhatsApp number 083 651 5170 as well. Looking forward to share some “good feel” stories in the newsletter.

 

Registration 2025

Registration can be done in the following manner:

 Members can register at the clubhouse on Tuesdays from 17:00. Members can also register for 2025 using the following method:

 

  • ASA as well as the Nedbank Running Club’s registration forms must be completed.
  • You can obtain the necessary forms for your 2025 registration by open the following attached links:

  • If you have problems obtaining the forms via the links, you are more than welcome to request these forms from me. Just sent your email address to johanstr2@gmail.com and the forms will gladly be forwarded to you.

  • The 2025 fees are available on the Nedbank Running Club registration form.
  • Suggestion from my side is to download the requested forms and complete it before you go to the Club to register. That will save you valuable time.

We do have a card machine available for registration at the clubhouse. With this we want to urge our athletes to register as soon as possible to make the most of your ASA license number for the whole of 2025

 

Time Trials – Harry Marx

We want to invite ALL members, including new members, to come and join us every Tuesday at 17:15 for the Time Trials.

Come and experience the company of fellow members for a 2,4,6 and 8km run, even a 1km run will be accommodated. The course is properly marked to prevent participants from getting lost and it is very safe. Walkers are also more than welcome to come and join. Time Trials are important to measure your progress from week to week and we can see in the results how participants better themselves on a weekly basis.

Club Athlete of the month

Management decided to award Sampie Mokgatla  for the Club Athlete for the month of May. Sampie won several podium places in Road races during the month. Congratulations Sampie, we are proud of you!

 

Athletics Vaal Triangle Awards function for 2024

Athletics Vaal Triangle hosted their awards function where athletes were honored for their achievements in 2024. They were awarded for winning national medals on the Road, Cross Country, Track & Field and Masters Track & Field for 2024. We as club was well represented, and we want to share this proud occasion once again with our members. We really hope that this will serve as motivation for all our members to excel in their performances and to achieve the same heights as the 2024 winners.

Road Running

  • Sampie Mokgatla – Represented AVT at the ASA 10km championships and obtained the Team Bronze medal in the 45-49 category

  • Sibusiso Ndhlela - Represented AVT at the ASA 10km championships and obtained the Team Bronze medal in the 45-49 category

Cross Country

  • Christiaan Lewis – Represented AVT at the ASA Cross Country championships and obtained the Individual Silver medal in the B11/3km age category

  • Selna van As - Represented AVT at the ASA Cross Country championships and obtained the Individual Silver medal in the G16/4km age category

  • Miane de Clercq - Represented AVT at the ASA Cross Country championships and obtained the Team Silver medal in the G12/3km age category

  • Sampie Mokgatla - Represented AVT at the ASA Cross Country championships and obtained the Team Bronze medal in the M45/8km age category

Track & Field

  • Johanka de Villiers – Represented AVT at the ASA Senior championships and obtained the Team Silver medal in the 4x400m relay. Johanka was a member of our club in 2024
  • Marli Dimond - Represented AVT at the ASA Senior championships and obtained the Team Silver medal in the 4x400m relay. Marli was a member of our club in 2024
  • Chardone Smidt - Represented AVT at the ASA Senior championships and obtained the Team Silver medal in the 4x400m relay. Chardone was a member of our club in 2024
  • Astrid Fourie - Represented AVT at the ASA Senior championships and obtained the Team Silver medal in the 4x400m relay. Astrid is still a member of our club and the 4 ladies who won the relay were all from our club

  • Anje Holtzhausen – Represented AVT at the ASA U16-U20 championships and obtained the Individual Gold medal in the Hammer Throw G20. Anje attended the function and she is still proud to be from our club. She is currently at university

  • Franna van der Westhuizen - Represented AVT at the ASA Youth championships and obtained the Individual Silver medal in the 1200m B11

Masters Track & Field

  • Wynand Marais – Represented AVT at the SAMA championships and obtained 2 Gold medals in the 100m and Javelin in age category M40-44
  • Hermie Rossouw - Represented AVT at the SAMA championships and obtained the Silver medal in the 200m and the Bronze medal in the 100m in the age category M50-54

During the Awards function a photo was taken of the AVT Board. Who can guess how many of the Executive Board members belong to Nedbank Running Club? Cross Country – Chairperson Beaulah Valentin

Four leagues were completed, and the Nedbank athletes made us proud and I really want to share the following statistics with our members:

League 1

  • 29 Athletes from our club participated and obtained 18 podium places
  • 10 Athletes obtained 1st places
  • 4 Athletes obtained 2nd places
  • 4 Athletes obtained 3rd places

League 2

  • 30 Athletes from our club participated and obtained 16 podium places
  • 8 Athletes obtained 1st places
  • 4 Athletes obtained 2nd places
  • 4 Athletes obtained 3rd places

League 3

  • 28 Athletes from our club participated and obtained 17 podium places
  • 7 Athletes obtained 1st places
  • 7 Athletes obtained 2nd places
  • 3 Athletes obtained 3rd places

League 4

  • 37 Athletes from our club participated and obtained 27 podium places
  • 13 Athletes obtained 1st places
  • 9 Athletes obtained 2nd places
  • 5 Athletes obtained 3rd places

Summary

  • 124 Athletes from our club participated in the 4 leagues and obtained 78 podium places
  • 38 1st places obtained
  • 24 2nd places obtained
  • 16 3rd places

Remaining leagues and championships:

12 July 2025 – Driehoek High School, presented by Hoekies AC

2 August 2025 – Kollegepark Primary school, presented by Nedbank RC

9 August 2025 – AVT Cross Country championships – Kollegepark Primary school, presented by Nedbank Running Club in cooperation with AVT

6 September 2025 – ASA Cross Country championships – Kees Taljaard Stadium in Middelburg, Mpumalanga

To qualify for selection for the ASA Cross Country championships an athlete must:

Compete and complete 50% of the leagues of which at least 25% participation must be in a Township league

Compete and complete 50% of the inter provincial for which he/she was selected

Compete and complete the AVT Cross Country championships

Remember that there will be for the first time a qualifying time for each event. Qualifying times will be calculated on an athlete three (3) fastest league times

There will be an AVT A team sponsored by AVT and an AVT B team which will be for the cost of the athlete.

Currently 6 out of 25 athletes from our club on their way to qualify for the A team and 12 out of 62 athletes on their way to qualify for the B team

Entry stickers must be bought at each league for R40 per sticker. There will be an entrance fee of R40 for spectators. Card machine facility will be available at all events and AVT championships.

Valid 2025 ASA number must be worn at all leagues and championships and age category tags if applicable (age 35-90)

Comrades 2025

 

We want to congratulate all our Comrades runners on achieving their goals and who finished the race. Unfortunately, some could not finish in time but that must serve as motivation to finish it in 2026. During our pre-Comrades function it was clear from all that it is one race you cannot underestimate. Our club obtained 4 Bill Rowan medals (up to 9 hrs), 1 Robert Mtshali medal (up to 10 hrs), 3 Bronze medals (up to 11 hrs) and 10 Vic Clapman medals (up to 12 hrs). Here are the results from our members:
