NEDBANK RUNNING CLUB SHINES AT THE 2025 TOTALSPORTS TWO OCEANS MARATHON

Cape Town once again played host to the world’s most beautiful marathon – the 2025 Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon – and the Green Dream Team of the Nedbank Running Club were there to defend their titles and chase gold. While not everything went according to plan, the team proved their grit and depth, delivering top performances across both the ultra and half marathon events.

ULTRA MARATHON (56KM): GOLD GLORY FOR THE GREEN TEAM

In the men’s ultra-marathon, Lucky Mohale rose to the occasion with a determined run. With teammates Onalenna Konkhobe and Lloyd Bosman falling out of contention, Mohale dug deep and battled cramps from 48km to finish in 3rd place with a time of 03:11:27, earning a well-deserved gold medal.

“I'm very happy with my place. I was cramping from 48km, so I just needed to maintain my pace to finish top 3. I'm hoping next time to do better now that I know the problem,” said Mohale post-race.

Joining him in the gold medal ranks was Sithembiso Mqhele, who held his form to place 8th in 03:14:13, further strengthening the club’s elite presence.

In the women’s race, Dikeledi Majara delivered a consistent and composed effort, finishing 5th in 03:46:24. She was joined in the top 10 by teammates Landie Greyling and Deanné Laubscher, finishing 9th (03:57:39) and 10th (03:59:12) respectively — both securing gold medals for the team.

“I am absolutely elated,” said Greyling. “I dreamed of this day and dreamed of this goal, but to actually make it a reality is just unbelievable. I am so grateful.
It was really nice seeing the other Green Team ladies around me – it gave me inspiration – and then all of the supporters on the route were absolutely incredible.”

HALF MARATHON:

In the competitive half marathon, Nedbank athletes also stood tall. Namakoe Nkhasi powered through to claim 3rd place in 01:04:49, with Thabang Mosiako not far behind in 7th place in 01:06:13. Both runners claimed gold medals, once again showing the team’s strength in the shorter distance.

But perhaps the most inspiring moment of the day came from Ipeleng Khunou, affectionately known as “Crazy Legs.” Living with Septo Optic Dysplasia, Ipeleng completed the 21.1km race supported by his crutches, finishing in 03:40:09. His remarkable courage and perseverance reminded everyone what the heart of running is truly about.

A RACE TO REMEMBER

With seven gold medals, multiple top-10 finishes, and stories that uplifted the entire running community, the 2025 Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon was another memorable milestone for the Nedbank Running Club.

To every athlete who wore the green with pride this past weekend – whether chasing podiums or inspiring through sheer willpower – we salute you. Here's to passion, perseverance, and pushing beyond limits.
