Welcome once again to our third newsletter for 2025. We want to welcome members who have already registered at the club for 2025, especially new members who have joined us since our last newsletter. We trust that you all have a wonderful experience with Nedbank Running Club in 2025.

We want to say once again thank you to Nedbank and all our sponsors for continuous support which allow athletes to compete at the highest level. Without this support it would be difficult to achieve the same and even better results than what we had achieved in 2024. We as Nedbank Running Club Vanderbijlpark promise to keep on making you proud where we compete in our beloved green.

Gerda Pretorius handle all club related enquiries as well as all running gear. The contact number for Gerda is 072 209 9906. She will be available every Tuesday at the clubhouse from 17:00.

We as management hope that you enjoy our newsletter and if you want to send information to be published please feel free to send it to my email address namely johanstr2@gmail.com. I really looking forward to hearing from you. Maybe we can ask our coaches to send some articles about training, rest, nutrition etc. I am sure it will be highly appreciated by all of us

 

Registration 2025

Registration can be done in the following manner:

 Members can register at the clubhouse on Tuesdays from 17:00. Members can also register for 2025 using the following method:

 

  • ASA as well as the Nedbank Running Club’s registration forms must be completed.
  • You can obtain the necessary forms for your 2025 registration by open the following attached links:

  • via the links, you are more than welcome to request these forms from me. Just sent your email address to johanstr2@gmail.com and the forms will gladly be forwarded to you.

  • The 2025 fees are available on the Nedbank Running Club registration form.
  • Suggestion from my side is to download the requested forms and complete it before you go to the Club to register. That will save you valuable time.

We do have a card machine available for registration at the clubhouse. With this we want to urge our athletes to register as soon as possible to make the most of your ASA license number for the whole of 2025

 

Time Trials – Harry Marx

We want to invite ALL members, including new members, to come and join us every Tuesday at 17:15 for the Time Trials.

Come and experience the company of fellow members for a 2,4,6 and 8km run, even a 1km run will be accommodated. The course is properly marked to prevent participants from getting lost and it is very safe. Walkers are also more than welcome to come and join. Time Trials are important to measure your progress from week to week and we can see in the results how participants better themselves on a weekly basis.

We had our quarterly braai on Tuesday the 25th of March ’25 and thank you to everyone who attended this. This was also the send-off braai for all our Two Oceans entrants. Tsietsi Mokoena won the Sportsman’s warehouse gift voucher of R250 during the lucky draw.

Club Athlete of the month

Sibusiso Ndhlele was our athlete of the month for February ’25 with several podium places achieved. Well done Sibusiso and keep up the excellent performances on the Road and now on the Track as well.

Cross Country – Chairperson Beaulah Valentin

We have received the information for the leagues and championships for 2025. PLEASE note the change made to qualify and to represent AVT at the ASA championships. The change is that qualifying times are now included with the normal qualifying standard.

 

Road Running – Chairperson Joggie van der Sandt

Please remember to forward your results to the commission for recognition in 2025. Congratulations to all our athletes who participated in the Two Oceans ultra and half marathon during the weekend of 5-6 April ’25. One of our athletes, Harry Marx did both. Well done Harry!!

 

The following results with podium finishes were received from our road athletes and we want to congratulate each one for his/her performance:

Helene van Rooyen – 1st place 40-49 category in the 10km race

Tsietsi Mokoena – 1st place 50-59 category in the 21.1km race

Sampie Mokgatla - 2nd place 40-49 category in the 21.1km race

 

Surrender Hill – 10km race

 

Sibusiso Ndhlela – 1st place 40-49 category

 

TRAC Elands Valley

 

Michelle Preston-Spies

 

With her time of 3h02 Michelle is 13 minutes inside Para Olympics qualifying time. Michelle you are making us immensely proud.

 

Social at the Sasol Marathon at the DP de Villiers Stadium in Sasolburg

 

The Nedbank gazebo was erected at the event for the purpose of treating all Nedbank athletes in the country with something to eat and to drink. Thank you, Pierre, Gerda, and Salome.

Chris van Niekerk

Chris was chosen to represent South Africa at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing China and it was great seeing him competing with the best in the world. Chris we as club are super proud of you.

Tracey Olivier

Tracey was chosen by ASA to act as team manager for the athletes at these championships and the team won a Gold and Bronze medal at these championships. Well done Tracey we are just as proud of you with all the effort you put in to make Track and Field successful.

Michelle Preston-Spies

Always ready to inspire others, Michelle set her visual impairment aside and blasted to a South African 5000m T13 record in Port Elizabeth
