March 2021 Newsletter

NEDBANK RUNNING CLUB GAUTENG NORTH CLUB MEMBERS

We are proud to say that everyone has done so well the past year by not giving up, although COVID had us changing our mind set by working from home and getting use to all the restrictions and change our mindset.  For now that we moved to Level 1 Restrictions, we can with move back to some sort of normality.  Although Sanitizing, wearing of your mask/buff in public and social distancing will be with us for a while, we can resume full Time Trials.  We also encourage everyone to run Track and Field events as this is important to get back to competing and as Nedbank Running Club to keep our visibility and show everyone we are committed to running and we can change our mindset.  We are truly #MoreThanAClub!

Well done to our Elite Athletes and other Club Members that embraced the Track & Field events by taking part and you truly keep flying our Green flag high with their great performance all over South Africa in the past 2 weeks.  It is exciting to see everyone participating.  Look out for our new Club Track & Field STARS that joined us and thank you to Nick Bester for assisting us with kitting them out.

We urge all 2020 Members to renew their 2021 Membership as this is important to keep our Club running and keep our Membership up.  We understand it is hard for some but we have put measures in place to assist everyone.  If you cannot pay your full Membership Fees in one payment, you can arrange to pay monthly instalments over 3 months to ensure you receive your 2021 License when it becomes available.  We will try our best to accommodate everyone.

Athletics South Africa on the delivery of 2021 Permanent Licenses. The recent report we have received regarding the delay has been as a result of discussions between ASA and license sponsor. Due to these recent delays the 2020 Permanent Licenses will be valid till the 30 April 2021.

At our recent AGM, some are still under the impression that due to no Road Running events it is not necessary to renew your 2021 Club Membership.  We need to understand that our Club Fees per year are very low and we are Sponsoring Elite and other Athletes each year to ensure we meet our target.  The Committee works hard to get points to ensure we receive our Quarterly points from Nedbank Running Club Nationals to add to our Club income and without the assistance of Nick Bester, Nedbank and all our Sponsors it would have been hard to keep the doors open of all our Clubs in South African and abroad.  The yearly Club Membership for CBC Old Boys still have to be paid for us to have a venue to gather and have our weekly Time Trials as well as Administration cost, AGN Yearly Membership fees and general expenses has not decreased or minimized.  We as Committee are trying our best to come up with new ideas to assist Club Members to keep running and participate in our Virtual runs.  Remember, if you have a running License, you are insured on the roads and are able to participate in Virtual Races, thus if you are knocked down by a car or Taxi, you can claim your Medical Bills from ASA.

We as Committee are committed to our Club Members and decided to change our mind set and come to you as Club Members to join us at our Time Trials.  We will also visit all areas once we receive the 2021 Licenses and have a Time Trial to renew your Membership as we do understand it is hard for everyone to get to the Club due to transport or other issues.  This will take place on Saturday’s and communication will be sent out.  We identified key areas for now and will roll out more as these become successful.  Join our Committee Members and volunteers on Tuesdays and a Saturday 10KM to run that will take place in groups.  We are also starting a Walk for those who cannot run and if you are starting off to be a runner as well for those who are recovering from an injury.  Remember we need to be visible and urge everyone to put on their branded Nedbank Running Club kit to run and please send us your photos to post on Social Media.  You can post your own photos, but add our sponsors in your Tweets, Instagram and Face Book posts.  We need this to retain our sponsors as it is important to them as well.  Always use @Nedbankrunning_club, @BIOGEN, @FUTURELIFE, @NIKE, @BAVARIA  as well as use #MoreThanACLub and #GetMoving

Paying it forward:  We had a few requests for Club Members who do not have a watch, clothing or running shoes.  We urge those who renewed their running watch or updated their shoes to please bring in your old items to hand to those who cannot afford it.  You can hand it in at any of the Time Trials and we will ensure it goes to a good home.

Congratulations to our Elected Committee for 2021 and giving up your time and efforts to ensure our Club rises above this new way of running till we can start competing again.

Stay Safe
