Nedbank Running Club Continues Momentum with Multi-Race Dominance

Nedbank Running Club athletes maintained their early-season form with an impressive sweep across seven South African races this past weekend, claiming victories, multiple podiums, and demonstrating the club's remarkable depth from sprint distances to full marathons.

De Dekke Spar – Western Cape

The De Dekke Spar event proved to be a showcase of Nedbank's strength in numbers, with the club claiming a stunning podium sweep in the men's 21km. Lloyd Bosman led the charge with a commanding victory in 01:13:19, closely followed by Selwyn Matthews in second (01:13:33) and Wayne April rounding out the top three (01:13:43). The women's race saw Carla Spangenberg secure second place with a solid 01:27:40, while Nicolaas Steenekamp, Annatjie Botes, and Hanlie Schamrel added further depth to the club's results across both the 21km and 10km events.

In the 10km races, Luciano Squire delivered a thrilling sprint finish to claim first place in 00:34:34—just one second ahead of clubmate Khanyiso Pietersen (00:34:35). Akeen Wilson added a third-place finish (00:36:41), giving Nedbank three of the top four positions. Elmien Nel contributed a fifth-place finish in the women's 10km (00:52:08), further underlining the club's consistent presence across all race categories.

Klerksdorp Marathon – North West Province

Nedbank athletes delivered a double victory at the Klerksdorp Marathon, with Adele Broodryk taking top honours in the women's marathon and Joel Mmone dominating the 21km with an impressive winning time of 01:09:36. Both performances demonstrated the club's ability to compete at the highest level across varying distances and conditions.

Mapungubwe 4 in 1 Marathon – Limpopo

The Mapungubwe event saw Alex Aphane claim first place in the men's 10km with a commanding 00:30:41, while Makwena Kobo secured second in the 21.1km (01:09:48). Thompson Magagane added a fourth-place finish in the 10km (00:37:06), and the women's team contributed strong performances from Janique Du Toit (fifth, 01:37:14) and Monique Smit (sixth, 01:40:02) in the half marathon.

Run City of Mbombela Marathon – Mpumalanga

At the Jock of the Bushveld 4 in 1 Marathon, Jackson Ole Koisenge delivered a dominant performance to win the 42.2km in 02:24:32, with Robert Kiprotich Chelang'a following in second place (02:27:35). The women's marathon featured three Nedbank athletes in the top five: Puleng Khumalo (third, 03:15:55), Gladys Jepchirchir (fourth, 03:23:25), and Rebecca Rebecca (fifth, 03:30:47), showcasing the club's depth in ultra-distance events.

Rolando Hillcrest Marathon – KwaZulu-Natal

Nedbank's presence at the Rolando Hillcrest Marathon was felt across multiple distances. Victor Lapit secured second place in the men's 21km with a strong 01:09:06, while Nathi Khanyeza (fifth, 02:31:42) and Gareth Ford (ninth, 02:41:41) represented the club well in the marathon. Fikile Mbuthuma added a fourth-place finish in the women's 21km (01:30:16).

Westgate Family Run – Gauteng

The Westgate Family Run saw Nedbank athletes claim podium positions across three distances. Kabelo Melamu finished third in the men's 21km (01:14:38), while Kate Van Jaarsveld secured second in the women's race (01:31:00). Albert Kanhor placed fifth in the men's 10km (00:34:52), with Ezna Flattery (third, 00:47:13) and Louisa Olivier (sixth, 00:54:48) adding to the club's tally in the women's 10km. Valentina Wong capped off the day with a dominant first-place finish in the women's 5km (00:26:12).

ACE Eersterust Race – Pretoria

At the ACE Eersterust Race, Bernadene Mcloud claimed second place in the women's 21km (01:30:37), with Anoushka Noeth finishing ninth (01:51:00). Dalene Sonnekus secured third in the women's 10km (00:47:50), continuing the club's strong showing in the Gauteng region.

KUDUS 15km

Albert Kangor rounded out a busy weekend with a fourth-place finish at the KUDUS 15km (00:53:16), demonstrating the versatility and endurance that has become synonymous with Nedbank Running Club athletes.
