In the running world, it’s all about Personal Bests – and the 2025 African Bank Soweto Marathon is on track for its most enjoyable, energetic and enthusiastic edition of The People’s Race.
Taking place at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Soweto on Saturday 29 November 2025 and hosted by The City of Johannesburg; the African Bank Soweto Marathon route remains unchanged. The family of partners and sponsors is as impressive as always.
“This year promises more than before,” so says Soweto Marathon Spokesperson Jabu Mbuli. “We have addressed the challenges of previous years such as traffic congestion, sewerage, water shortages and shirt sizes – and are extremely confident that this 30th edition will be the most enjoyable event that the Athletics Clubs of Soweto have ever hosted. The support given to us from all our other partners, clubs, governing bodies and runners has been nothing short of extraordinary – and the runner will see that come race day.”
The Race Expo will open with the ribbon cutting at 12h00 on Wednesday 26 November and remain open until 19h00. For Thursday 27 and Friday 28 November 2025, the expo will be open from 09h00 – 19h00 where runners can collect their race packs, enjoy the exhibitions and activations and have all their queries answered directly by the race office.
Race Director for the African Bank Soweto Marathon, Danny Blumberg says that this exceptional race promises only excellence;
“Our event teams; race office; partners and governing bodies remain unchanged from 2024, which has afforded us to build on the previous edition and make this year’s race even better. Despite every challenge this event has faced, it always stands taller—thanks to the incredible spirit of the Soweto community, our dedicated runners, and our partners. We can’t wait to come together on November 29th.”
