Nedbank Running Club athletes were out in full force this past weekend, producing another series of strong results across the country. From the streets of Johannesburg to the coastal routes of Mossel Bay, the Green Dream Team continued to impress with podium finishes and age-category victories across multiple distances.
At the Bayrun with Discovery Vitality Race, Nedbank athletes delivered a clean sweep of victories. Andile Motwana claimed the 21km title in 1:09:19.
Refeloe Solomons not only winning her 40–49 age category but also finishing as the first overall woman in 1:27:12, she was very happy with her race - “My legs were initially tired after competing in the Great Kei Marathon last weekend, but I quickly recharged”
The 10km event was an all-green podium as Sibahle Maqwara took the win in 33:00, followed by Zolani Mabongo in second (34:23), who also won his 35–39 category, and Asonge Mthana in third (34:56), securing the win in the junior division.
In Johannesburg, the SPAR Women’s Challenge Jozi saw strong performances from Nedbank’s elite women. Diniya Abaraya finished second-place in 33:41
“All in all it was a good race, just a bit difficult for me because of the elevation and uphill, it was a good race just a bit challenging. This year has been quite an experience. This race has helped me to be more confident and build and improve. So all in all I am still a winner because I compare myself to my previous time and I have improved which is a win for me.”
Selam Gebre followed in fourth place (34:48), Mildred Kinyanja in seventh (34:48), and Florence Kemunto in eighth (35:40).
Down in Gauteng, the Midvaal MADMAC Marathon produced more top results. In the men’s 42.2km, Bright Mikolongwe took third place in 2:31:00, while teammate Bakang Kgokong finished fifth in 2:37:47. The men’s 22km race saw Tiisetso Mokhoma take second in 1:12:04 and Riaan van Zyl sixth in 1:19:05. On the women’s side, Helene van Rooyen claimed third place in 1:30:35.
In the Eastern Cape, Lihle Mpongoma represented the club at the WSU Convocation 21.1km, finishing seventh in 1:18:59, while in Limpopo, Makwena Kabo placed third in 1:15:06 at the 1st Annual Amanqcamane Half Marathon. In the 10km event, Nedbank once again went 1–2, with Alex Aphane winning in 31:21 and Isaac Tshuene Mosia following in 32:00.
Nedbank continued its winning streak at the Prof. Otty Nxumalo Marathon, where Gladys Jepchirchir took first place in the women’s 42.2km in 3:00:56, while Mziwenkosi Mjaja placed fifth in the men’s marathon with 2:28:54. In the women’s 21.1km, Msawenkosi Nsibande placed second in 1:33:38.
At the N12 Half Marathon, Nedbank’s women again featured prominently, with Tebogo Mokgosinyane finishing second in 1:29:58 and Annique Burger third in 1:31:17.
Rounding off a successful weekend at the Hartenbos 15km Run, where Lloyd Bosman took the win in 49 minutes, followed by teammates Selwyn Matthews in second and Wayne April in fourth.
From fast 10kms to tough marathons, Nedbank Running Club athletes once again flew the #GreenDreamTeam flag high, proving their consistency and strength across all distances. Congratulations to all who represented the club with pride this weekend.
