It was another standout weekend for the Nedbank Running Club, with athletes across the country showcasing their strength, speed, and depth of talent across multiple distances. From road races to challenging trails, the Green Dream Team once again made their presence felt with victories, podium finishes, and even a new course record.
At the Food Lovers Market Tekkie Challenge 16km (10 Miler), Mandlenkosi Tuna stormed to victory in spectacular fashion, not only taking 1st place but also setting a new course record in 52:32. In the women’s race, Elme Middlemost ran to claim 1st in 1:07:58. Over the 10km distance, teammate Michelle Dykman came first, crossing the line in 39:42.
The aQuellé Zone 3 Marathon presented by Run Zone also saw impressive performances, with Acacia-Cailyn Abell finishing 2nd in the women’s 10km in 45:23, closely followed by Rachel Woodburn in 3rd with 45:28.
In Tembisa, the Slotjhile Run produced double victories for Nedbank athletes in the half marathon. Slivester Kipkemboi Kipsang took 1st place in the men’s 21.1km in 1:09:22, while Florence Kemunto claimed the women’s win in 1:21:20. Teammate Gladys Jepchichi added another podium spot with 3rd in 1:29:35. Over the 10km, Peris Lobakam secured 2nd place in 43:07.
In Pretoria, the Brooklyn Road Race 33km saw two silver finishes for Nedbank. Estean Badenhorst placed 2nd in the men’s race in 2:00:41, while Stella Marais also secured 2nd in the women’s race with 2:29:05.
Down in the Western Cape, the Madibaz George Forest Run brought a wave of green victories. In the men’s half marathon, Lloyd Bosman took 1st in 1:11:03, with Selwyn Matthews following for 2nd in 1:12:42. The 10km was a clean sweep for the men, as Francois Maquassa raced to 1st in 32:41, followed by Bruce Maboza (2nd, 33:23) and Grant Eden Jankes (3rd, 37:03). In the women’s race, Annelisiwe Mlungunza dominated to take 1st in 37:41.
At the SAPS Striders 21km, Nedbank athletes once again showed their class. Mziwenkosi Mjaja raced to 1st in 1:08:06, with teammate Nathi Khanyeza close behind in 3rd, clocking 1:08:14.
On the marathon front, Nedbank athlete Simphiwe Mfowetshiza delivered a strong run at the Borders Masters Marathon, claiming 3rd place in 2:25:52.
