It was a busy weekend of racing for the Nedbank Running Club, with athletes in action across the country and collecting wins, podiums, and strong finishes in distances ranging from 5km to 32km.
Totalsports Women’s Race – Cape Town
The Cape Town edition of the Totalsports Women’s Race saw a stacked field in the 10km, with Selam Gebre narrowly missing the podium in 4th place with a 32:32. Teammates Getenesh Agafaw and Siftolina Chemeda also claimed top-10 finishes in 34:12 and 34:32, respectively. In the shorter 5km event, Babette van Rooyen took the win in 22:29, showing great speed over the fast course.
Muteo Women’s Day Race
In the men’s 10km, Alex Aphane led from the front to take victory in 31:55, with Isaac Tshuene Musia securing 3rd in 32:32. Monique Smit claimed the women’s title in 42:55, adding another win to her growing list of achievements this year.
Old Eds Road Race – Johannesburg
It was a dominant day for the Nedbank men in the 21.1km, with Lucky Mohale winning in 1:07:54, followed by Kabelo Melamu in 3rd (1:09:34) and Bright Mikolongwe in 4th (1:11:44). Ilse Marais added a silver medal to the tally, finishing 2nd in the women’s race in 1:29:42. Over 10km, Shanice Peens placed 2nd in 40:18 and Rachel Woodburn 6th in 45:21.

- Quagga Road Race – 32km: Promise Msitshana 4th (1:56:03), Robert Chelang’a 5th & 2nd veteran (1:59:16), Kaitlin van Dyk 5th (2:40:30).
- GBV Half Marathon: Rebecca Nakuwa 3rd overall & 1st veteran (1:27:00).
- ElvisBrew 12km: 1st Lloyd Bosman (33:53), 2nd Selwyn Matthews (36:10), 3rd Francois Maquassa (37:30).
- Matatiele Legendary Marathon – 10km: 1st Simphiwe Mfowetshiza (31:00).
- John Korasie 30km: Ashley Smith 1st (1:37:54), Selwyn Matthews 3rd (men’s race).
- Mathews Meyiwa 21km: 1st Nkosinathi Khanyeza (1:10:00), 2nd Benjamin Nyongesa.
From short-course speed to strength over the longer distances, Nedbank athletes once again proved their class. Congratulations to all who represented the Green Dream Team this weekend.
