The F21 Foskor Half Marathon in Phalaborwa will set the stage for the South African Half Marathon Championships this coming weekend. Nedbank Running Club will be represented by a strong contingent of quality runners to set the stage alight.
Lucky Mohale, current defending champion, will be representing Nedbank Running Club Central Gauteng, having won the 2024 edition in an impressive 1:04. Having claimed two national titles already, Mohale will be pushing for that top step.
Lucky Mohale say- “I am fully recovered from this year's Comrades marathon and looking forward to a great and competitive race especially my two Nedbank Running Club mates and training partners Joel Mmone and Onalenna Khonkhobe who led the 2025 Comrades marathon till the 64km mark - Both of them are very fit and we trained together under coach Pio Mpolokeng in Klerksdorp for the South African half marathon championships. I came to Tzaneen on Wednesday already to make sure I climatise well and see the route”
Teammate Namakoe Nkhasi, while not in contention for these championships, will still be in contention for the podium, his half marathon PB of 1:01:01 shows he has the speed to give others a challenge, and he will no doubt be aiming to run a race that sees him claim a podium spot and a share of the R462,000 prize money.
The lure of top prize money has also attracted the Kenyans, with Thomas Esito Ekiru, Denis Kipkosgei and Debrah Cherotich also coming to run the race. Ekiru and Kipkosgei, both with PBs of 01:03 in the half marathon, have the potential for top places, especially in their respective age categories.
Bringing international runners to races is not only about showing strength, but also about giving the South African runners an opportunity to learn from runners who have competed against the best in the world.
Nedbank Running Club, with development at its core, is all about making runners the best athletes they can be, which shows in the current elite teams.
F21 Foskor Half Marathon will see many other Nedbank Running Club runners taking part, but as it's the Half Marathon Championships, they will be running in their provincial colours.
