The Nedbank Running Club have put together a strong team for the 10km in Durban this weekend, and gunning for podium spots, the Green Power Team are ready to shine.
The Run Your City events are known for attracting elite athletes, particularly in the men’s race. Nedbank has two runners who have been able to break 28 minutes in the 10km, Namakoe Nkhasi has a PB of 27:52 and Thabang Mosiako a PB of 27:45. Thabang claimed third last year's race, but will his legs be on form to claim first or second place this year?
His Ethiopian teammate Abdilmejid Abdela Mohammed will also be one to watch, with a PB of 13:16 in the 5,000m. Even if he runs a negative split, he has the legs to be with the lead bunch. Alongside him is Matthew Endrody, who is also hoping to make his mark on the 10km race. With his speedwork done on the track in the 1,500m and 800m, he will undoubtedly be well placed to hold on in the men’s race, with the possibility of a top place in his debut attempt.
Also in the lineup will be 2025 Comrades Down Run Champion Tete Dijane. Coming back to where he so spectacularly defended his down run title, Tete is looking to loosen the legs and get back to some speed work. While he won't be aiming for the top spot, his appearance at the race will undoubtedly bring much fanfare from the spectators on the route.
On the women’s side, Selam Gebre will be back in Durban looking to challenge her rival, Glenrose Xaba. The two have been racing neck and neck the whole season, and while Gebre did not have a good race at the recent SPAR Grand Prix in Durban, she will undoubtedly be back to show Xaba she has what it takes to beat her.
Speaking of her last race in Durban, Gebre had run while under the weather; “I was battling with a severe headache and was battling to control myself, but I had to continue pushing and still managed to finish third.” Being able to run a podium finish in a stacked field despite not feeling her best shows that Gebre is one to watch.
The team is ready to go, with everyone hoping for a podium finish in each category, and it will undoubtedly be an exciting race to watch. Catch all the action LIVE on Supersport at 07h30 on Channel 209 this Sunday, 13 July 2025.
