A Podium-Packed Performance Across Southern Africa

The Nedbank Running Club delivered a powerhouse performance this past long weekend, earning top spots across races — from local classics to international marathons. Here's a full roundup of the standout results:

Prince Mangosuthu Ultra Marathon – 52km & 21km

Ultra:

  • Onalenna Khonkhobe took 1st place in the men’s 52km in 2:56:40
  • Phumlani Dlamini followed in 6th (2:57:42) and Sinethemba Tshangase in 10th (2:59:21).

In the women’s field, while a podium spot wasn’t taken, three of our Green Team managed to place in the top 10.

  • Slindile Chili placed 4th (3:51:26), followed by Fikile Mbuthuma (5th, 3:58:19) and Rebecca Nakuwa (9th, 4:11:53).

Half Marathon:

  • Philemon Koskey ran a 1:06:05, finishing 6th in the men’s 21km.

Vaal Triangle Marathon

42km Women:

  • Deanne Laubscher took the top spot in the women’s race with a first-place finish in 2:59:25.
  • Brenche van den Berg came 9th overall and 3rd in her age category with a time of 4:06:16.

21km Highlights:

  • Rearabetswe Mokoena: 7th overall, 3rd in age category, 1:25:14
  • Tsietsi Mokoena: 8th overall, 1st in age category, 1:25:42

Alan Robb Marathon

42km:

  • Dumisani Ndlovu claimed 3rd in the men’s race with 2:51:06.
  • Ilse Marais took 2nd place overall, also finishing 1st in her age category, clocking 3:31:51.

10km Performances:

  • Sekgwane Moloele and Keagan Botha finished 5th (41:05) and 8th (42:16) respectively.
  • The women also impressed: Kai Hattingh placed 3rd (42:14), with Dalene Sonnekus in 6th (47:49).

BTC Marathon – Botswana

  • Moses Tarakinyu dominated with a 2:14:17 win in the men’s marathon.
  • Tawanda Bvunzawabaya finished 3rd in 2:21:58.
  • In the women’s race, Tabitha Tsatsa placed 5th with a time of 3:27:02.

Polokwane City Marathon

42.2km Women:

  • Tebogo Mokgosinyane took 2nd overall and 1st in her age category in 3:08:45.
  • Monique Smit placed 7th in 3:32:22.

Men's 42.2km:

  • Thomas Esito Ekiru placed 4th veteran.

21km Men:

  • Tiisetso Mokhoma – 2nd, 1:07:55
  • Robert Kiprotich Chelang'a – 7th overall, 2nd veteran, 1:10:19

10km Men:

  • Alex Sello – 1st, 30:31
  • Isaac Moshia – 2nd, 30:35
  • Makwena Kobo – 9th, 32:35
  • Thompson Magagane – 3rd veteran

Loskop Marathon Series

50km Women:

  • Stella Marais ran a 3:55:23, placing 10th in the race.

21km Men:

  • Ntuthuko Maseko ran a 1:20:43, placing 7th.

NMB Motherwell Freedom Run – Gqeberha

10km Men:

  • Andile Motwana – 2nd (30:28)
  • Gift Chigomarawa – 4th (31:10)
  • Oyama Ntantiso – 5th (31:16)
  • André Ketchem – 3rd Veteran (32:49)
  • Xolile Ndingane – 2nd Master (36:37)
  • Luvuyo Dyani – 3rd Master (37:43)
  • Mutekile Rasmeni – 2nd Grandmaster (38:27)

10km Women:

  • Refeloe Solomons – 1st (36:50), also 1st Veteran
  • Ntombesintu Mfunzi – 4th (38:58), 2nd Veteran
  • Christine Claasen – 1st Grandmaster (46:02)

Two SA records were broken!

  • Margie Saunders: 44:38 (Great-grandmasters, breaking her own record)
  • Desmond Zibi: 34:07 (Grandmasters)

Autumn Night Race

  • Brandon Joubert – 2nd male, 36:01
  • Sanet Griesel – 2nd female, 45:56

Outeniqua Marathon

42.2km Women:

  • Carla Spannenberg took 1st place

10km Men:

  • 1st place, Francois Maquassa – 31:43

10km Women:

  • Kezia Matthysen – 2nd overall, 1st junior

Mangaung Half Marathon

  • Chabeli Nyedimane1st place overall
