Nare in search of Olympic qualifier
March 24, 2021
Nedbank Running Club Ethiopia’s Tadu Nare may only be 20 years old, but her list of achievements is that of a very experienced professional runner. And the accolades keep climbing. Tonight, in Stellenbosch, Nare looks to run an Olympic qualifying time over 1500m

Stepping off the plane today in Cape Town after leaving Addis Ababa earlier this morning together with Nedbank Running Club Ethiopia’s coach and Chairman Belay Hagos, Nare is in good spirits. “The goal is for Tadu to run under 4 mins tonight,” said coach Hagos from their hotel in Stellenbosch.

“The only issue we may face is that we travelled long to get here, however Tadu’s training went very well in Addis and she is in the best shape she has ever been in.” Earlier this year, Nare finished 3rd over 1500m in the Ethiopian trials, which saw her being selected as part of the Ethiopian Olympic preparation squad.

“Being part of the squad really helped Tadu as now she was training with the big names such as Genzebe Dibaba and Teferi, so she learnt a lot from them.”

Having already established a name for herself in South Africa, with numerous podium finishes in the Spar Grand Prix 10km series and overall victory in the South Africa Half Marathon championships, Nare returns to South Africa, hungry where she left off but now in search of even faster times.

With a personal best over the half marathon of 1:09:57 which is world class, Nare has the strength already and continually now works on her speed.

Nedbank running club is a proud supporter in the development of Tadu Nare and her quest in being one of the best athletes in the World.
