Cross Country

Cross Country News – Andre Gobey

Hi Cross Country friends,

We had two cross country events since my last email. Both events treated spectators to some of the finest cross country running performances so far this season. If performances continue to improve like this, we have a lot to look forward to going into the provincial and national championships. Our Primary schools event at Boerefort attracted close to 1800 athletes and the New Balance secondary schools event at Fountains Valley, 249 athletes after a very successful Maxi Cross trail run earlier in the morning.

Athletes had a chance to welcome back our 800 meters world champion Caster Semenya who showed that she did not only have speed, but also lots of stamina when she finished third overall in the ladies 4 Km event. The race was won by Tuks team mate Mirriam Thole with another Tuks athlete Zintle Singe in second place. The senior men event was won by Tumelo Motlagale from Nedbank ahead of Steve Ngqola from Transnet in second and Brighton Chipere from Nedbank in third position.
