25th run of the Forever Resorts Loskop Marathon Series

The 25th run of the popular Forever Resorts Loskop Marathon Series will take place on Saturday, 17 April 2010. The two marathon's will constitute the last opportunity for runners who entered the 2010 Comrades Marathon to qualify or better their seedings.

The 50km Loskop Marathon from Middelburg to Loskop Dam has been rated as the second best ultra marathon for 2009, outperforming both the Comrades and the Two Oceans Marathons. The Forever Resorts Wild Challenge, a 21,1km country race that is run through the Loskop Nature Reserve is growing in popularity and was voted the best half-marathon in SA.

"We are proud that both our races scored 90% with our patrons during 2009. Both races are  growing in popularity and in 2010 with the running of the 25th Forever Resorts Loskop Marathon, we are expecting even a higher level of satisfaction" said Christo Wagenaar, Group Marketing Manager of Forever Resorts.

The Forever Resorts Loskop Marathon is a 50km ultra marathon from Middelburg to Forever Resorts Loskopdam Resort and will start in Wanderers Street, Middelburg at 06h00.  The Forever Resorts Wild Challenge is a 21.1km half marathon that is run through the Loskop Dam Nature Reserve and starts at 06h30.

Whether runners are participating in either of the two events that make up the Series - the 50km Forever Resorts Loskop Marathon or the 21.1km Forever Resorts Wild Challenge - they will have to pre-enter.

The race will again be using a Sport Timing system to record the athletes' times.  The system is used in many sporting codes including cycling and has proven its ability and accuracy.  GijimaAST, the Forever Resorts Loskop Series IT partner, is responsible for the race database management and the final delivery of the results. "The system is highly effective; however, athletes are urged to keep the chip attached to their race numbers.  We have instituted a `no chip - no time' policy and this will be strictly enforced by the officials and marshalls at the Finish," commented Hein Koch, race director.

Refreshments stations will provide Coke and Purified Water sachets at every 3km for the 1st half and every 2,5km for the 2nd half of the 50km route and every 3km for the 21,1 Wild Challenge.

Nedbank Running Club woman's team to defend Ladies Spar title.

The woman's team of the Nedbank Running Club Soweto in Central Gauteng is on their way to Cape Town this coming weekend.

It is the start of a new season and the first race in the annual Spar Ladies series of races this year.

We want to make a very strong entry into the team category and we also expect to take the overall winners position on Sunday.

Our ladies are currently in top form after the dominant performance last week in the Two Oceans half marathon. Both Rene Kalmer and Irvette Van Blerk broke the coarse record clocking 72 minutes as they claimed first and second spot on the podium.

The rest of the team will be made out of our South African 10km. bronze medal winner on the track, Mpho Mabuza, Poppy Mlambo, Maxine Heine Wacker, Marelize Retief and the young junior, Bianca Van Niekerk.

For the rest of the Nedbank running Club ladies, this will be a special event where they can enjoy the benefits of running.

Nedbank Running Club members relax after the Two Oceans marathon.

All the Nedbank runners that completed the Two Oceans Marathon were treated with a meal and drinks after the race at the marquee that was situated very close to the finish line.

The tent was buzzing with excited runners as they share their personal experiences in the race with fellow Nedbank runners. More than 400 meals were served to the tired runners and they were very happy for the cold drinks and beers that were kept on ice for them at the tent.

Nedbank runners from the 13 Nedbank Clubs across the country use the time to know each other better as they cheer for the rest of their team mates that was running past the tent to finish the last 50meter of this grueling event.

Some Nedbank runners that was caught on camera at the Nedbank tent.-see below.
