Welcome Back
We want to wish every Nedbank Running Club member a warmth welcome back this year. We also want to make use of this opportunity to welcome all the new members that joined our Nedbank running club this year.

A special welcome to Rene Kalmer, one of South Africa's top female athletes, who have already won her first race last weekend in her new Nedbank Running kit

We selected a Nedbank Green Dream Team for the 2010 running year and we will be launching this squad next week at the offices of NIKE South Africa in Midrand. This squad will be supported by Nedbank and Nike and we expect big things from them. We will have details about the full team in our next newsletter.

We want to congratulate the Nedbank Running Clubs with the record amount of our runners that entered the Comrades Marathon this year. With close of entries last year we have got 635 Nedbank Runners that entered. Nedbank Athlete Lungisa Mdedelwa got 2nd place in the Angola 10km in a time of 28:33 Behind Ethiopean Athlete in 28:28

Road running-Varsity Kudus Thomas Foundry 15km
Nedbank Running Club Members dominated the opening CGA fixture.

Johannesburg-Olympic middle distance star Rene Kalmer breezed through 2009 beating all comers at will but her first road race of 2010 proved to be one of the toughest test of the last 13 months.
Although she claimed victory in the Varsity Kudus Thomas Foundry 15 kilomtre in her new Nedbank club colours she faced a tough challenge from training partner and new club team mate Irvette van Blerk. "My ITB siezed up at the bottom of the first big downhill at the 6 kilo mark and Irvette screamed past me, this is a tough course with the next nine kilometres being mostly uphill. I ran my butt off and only caught her with two kilometres to go, she hung on for awhile and in the end I only beat her by 26 seconds, it was tough going," the Roodepoort based former school teacher explained.
She will be leaving for Europe next week to test her skills on the indoor circuit. "I have never run indoors before and as I will be focusing on the track circuit for the last time this year before I move up to the marathon next year I want to be able to say that I have tried everything before changing distances". The ever improving Mpho Mabuza having transfered from the Powerade to the Nedbank club managed third in 59:50. Multiple Comrades gold medalist, Yolandi McLean (Jeppe) started off her campaign for another shot at the countries premier ultra distance race after a year long injury enforced lay off with a fifth place in 61:13.

Before the start of the race both Zongamele Dyubeni and his Nedbank team mate Coolboy Ngamole tipped each other to win but while they were watching each other Xolisa Tyali (Nedbank) slipped through to win in 47:04, relegating Dyubeni to second and Ngamole to sixth. The remaing podium placing went to another Powerade AC transfer, Lucky Miya (Nedbank) who clocked 48:11.
