Dear Nedbank Running Club Member

News

Nedbank Running Clubs in full swing for the 2010 running season.
The 13 Nedbank Running Clubs countrywide is gearing themselves up to be ready for the masses of runners that will be joining the club early January 2010.

With the Comrades Marathon entries that topped the 20 000 mark already and still a lot of runners that wants to enter, we expect that all the road races in 2010 will have record entries because of the runners that wants to use theses races to qualify for Comrades as well as that some runners will use the races as training for the Comrades Marathon at the end of May 2010.

Nedbank remain committed to running in South Africa, and are especially pleased that their partnership with the Nedbank Running Clubs is cemented for 2010.

To support this, we can assure you the runners, joggers and walkers that plans are already afoot to bolster the Nedbank Running Club experience.  Members and committees can look forward to the continued support and Nedbank are pleased to say that a fresh new vest design is due out in January.

Nedbank have been especially pleased with the growth and collaboration of the Nedbank Running Clubs over the last 24 months for the benefit of thousands of participants across the country, many who depend on their greater involvement.

Nedbank is also a proud sponsor of the Comrades marathon and is committed till 2012 to this prestigious race.

Nedbank Running Club proves to be a club for everyone

The Nedbank Soweto Marathon that took place on the 2nd of November just proves again that the Nedbank Running Club is a club for everyone; the contracted athlete as well as the social athlete that runs for the health, fun or enjoyment of the sport.

The club team competition last year has been won by both the men's and the ladies teams from our Nedbank Running Club in Johannesburg.

The second club team's home, also in both categories, were their counterparts from the Nedbank Running Club in Tshwane.

But what is so amazing about this?

If you look at the results of the overall Ladies Club team competition you will see that two of our social and part time runners with full time jobs in the likes of Nomasonto Skosana and 5FM DJ Koula formed part of the winning team by anchoring the last two positions of the team in times of 4h03minutes and 4h41 minutes respectively.

The two Nedbank contracted athletes, Poppy Mlambo and Mpho Mabuza would not have been in this favourable position if it was not for the back up of the normal Nedbank runners. This again shows the value of filling in your details on the tear off strips or entry forms correctly.

The Nedbank running club also proves that it is a club for young and "experienced" members. It was not only in the senior rankings that we performed exceptional but our junior ladies took the first 5 positions in the Nedbank Soweto 10km event and our veteran ladies team was the third vet team home in the race.

The Nedbank Running Club runners performed excellently in 2009.
The Nedbank Running Club produced 5 runners or 50%, in the top ten half marathon times this year.

Stepehan Makoka, a member of the Nedbank Running Club in Gauteng North was the fastest half marathon runner this year in South Africa when he clocked 1 hour 01 minute and 26 seconds at the Nedbank S.A half marathon Championships earlier this year in Port Elizabeth.

These brilliant results are a clear indication of the success of our development program under the guidance of Zithulele Sinqe as well as the constructive work that our Nedbank coaches do with our athletes. The Nedbank Running Club assisted many coaches including the likes of Lungile Rado, Gerrie Coetzee, Pio Mpolokeng, Michael Seme and Zamele Msali in the Transkei.
