Continued support of the Nedbank Running Clubs

In the current climate and in terms of its relationship with ASA, Nedbank is rightly concerned at the reputational risk factors that are at stake and has therefore suspended all talks of possible future sponsorships with ASA. Nedbank will continue to work with ASA in the delivery of scheduled events until end 2009 which includes the Nedbank Soweto Marathon.

Nedbank is keen to remain in running in South Africa, especially for the benefit of thousands of participants across the country who depend on our greater involvement.

To support this, we have been especially pleased with the growth and collaboration of the Nedbank Running Clubs over the last 20 months. It is satisfying to see the distinctive colours grace our roads, especially when our membership does themselves proud, be that at the front of races at events like the Comrades Marathon, this past weekend's Nedbank Cape Town Marathon and be that the elite runners or those club members simply aspiring to beat their personal bests or stay healthy. We can assure our partner; Nick Bester and all Nedbank Running Club members and your committees that you have our continued support and we have no intention to cease that partnership.

We look forward to building on that partnership, making a greater success and trust that members and stakeholders will support our investment.

Andy Scott
Head: Nedbank Group Sponsorships

2010 Comrades Novice Entries Closed!

Entries for Novice Comrades Runners opened on Sunday, 1 November at 09h00 and within 27 hours the CMA received the targeted 5,000 entries for Novice Runners! As a result entries for the 2010 Comrades Marathon is now officially closed.

Any novice runner who has posted his/her entry by close of business today, 2 November 2009, will still be accepted - the envelope must be postmarked and dated 2 November 2009.  Should a postal entry be postmarked and dated after 2 November 2009, the entry will NOT be accepted.

"As we currently stand we have reached the 5 000 Novices targeted for the 2010 Comrades Marathon. I was confident that we would receive 5 000 Novice entries within a four week period, but never anticipated that we would reach the 5 000 threshold within 27 hours of opening the entry process for Novices. This is a fantastic achievement by the Comrades Marathon and illustrates the extent to which the Comrades brand has captured the imagination of South African and international distance runners alike. Congratulations to all the successful entrants and good luck on your quest to complete "The Ultimate Human Race", Gary Boshoff, CEO Comrades Marathon Association.

The CMA will be processing all entries over the next couple of weeks, and a final entry figure will be released upon completion. The total number of entries could well be in excess of 20 000 runners since postal entries will take approximately 10 working days to arrive at the CMA offices.

Ends.

Race Yourself ! @ the Triple Challenge

Pietermaritzburg

Now in it's eighth year, the Triple Challenge has established itself as one of South Africa's leading ultra-distance multisport events. In essence, athletes start with a 20km trail run from Pietermaritzburg to Camperdown, followed by a 52km mountain bike leg into the Valley of a Thousand Hills to Inanda Dam, to finish with either a 19km paddle on Inanda Dam (Multisport) or a 7km trail run (MultiX).

With a multitude of entry options, the Triple Challenge can be enjoyed by the endurance fraternity at large; as an individual the event requires a good degree of fitness and is respected by those who have conquered it as one of the toughest ultra events on the calendar while for team combinations, it is a test of speed and stamina as each leg is physically demanding but rewarding in itself.
