12TH IAAF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Coolboy Ngamole a Member of the Nedbank Running Club will represent our country in the Marathon at the 12TH IAAF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Marathon will take place on the morning of 22 August

Hello to all of the Nedbank Running Family!

My name is Lawrence Bloch, I am the Chairman of Nedbbank Nelspruit LVCC Running Club. It's good to be able to communicate with you all at once!

We organize & put on a race which we call the "Om-die-Dammetjie". We call it this because it is only 21 km around a smaller-than-Hartebeespoort- Dam-dam outside White River called Klipkoppie Dam. It is a Nedbank-sponsored race, now in it's 8th year more or less. It is growing in popularity from year to year. We are holding it on Saturday 12th September this year. I have included some pictures of the dam & our runners doing clean-ups, etc. I'm sure you all must agree that it is beautifull beyond comparison!

Why not come down to us for the weekend, come Friday night & either camp on the banks of the dam or we can assist you with the help of a travel agent to find accommodation in nearby White River or Nelspuit. Why not make this your Club away-run? The run is not too strenuous & promises to be very scenic & enjoyable. We also have a 10 km & 5km race for those of you that don't feel like going the full 21. Temporary
licences are available.

I have enclosed an entry form as well for your convenience. For any queries please contact myself on 0832283719, or Beth on 0828013600.
(We apologise for the lateness of this invitation, but have spent a long time back & forth with the Dept. of Water Affairs, getting permission, etc.!)

We are looking forward to seeing you down in the warm Lowveld for a special weekend!

Regards
Lawrence

Route type: Circular. Many people consider this to be the fastest 10km course in South Africa, not just because of the layout, but because of the scenic and appealing environment. Starting from just outside the Coetzenburg Stadium the race has an extremely gradual climb up through tree-line residential streets for the first 2km, which is followed by a speed-inducing 3.5km natural downhill through the town on Merriman Street.  Another two flat kilometers sets the stage for runners of all abilities to record personal bests and the crowd encouragement as the course winds through the Victorian architecture of the Town centre virtually assures everyone that they can hold pace over the final 1.5km back to finish on the stadium track.

The race is open to all runners and walkers with seeding applied to ensure a smooth start. This is an ideal course for the elite and the novice and is held in the vibrant university town surroundings with a vast array of wine farms eager to welcome post race celebrations.

The 5km Dash and school challenge uses a similar first 2km returning back down Van der Stel to pass the Danie Craven Memorial and finishing on the back straight of the track. This race is preceded by a 10km wheelchair event where the push-rim competitors reach amazing speeds over the distance.

Nedbank Matha Series - Bloemfontein

A stunning and quick route round the City of Roses.

ORGANISER: Athletics South Africa (011) 880 5800  or  Free State Athletics (051) 430 3251  fsa@athletics.org.za
VENUE: Free State Athletics Stadium, Att Horak Avenue, Bloemfontein
START: 07h00 for 21.1km and 07h15 for 5km

ROUTE DESCRIPTION: (c/o Tom Cottrell)  Expect an extremely fast and flat route. Starting in the historic city centre outside the City Hall, the race heads out south, past many civic buildings and historic monuments, crossing the canal in sight of the Supreme and Magistrates' courts.

The race is run through the south-western residential arterials of Haldon and Du Bruyn Roads, passing through Gardenia Park and into the suburb of Universitas. Although predominantly flat, there is a gradual climb around the university sports fields which takes you to the highest point of the race in Koos van der Walt Road. From here, there is an easy descent down Nelson Mandela Drive and then DF Malherbe.
The race will feel familiar as you return to Du Bruyn Road, with a hop-skip-and-a-jump onto Paul Kruger. After passing Universitas Hospital, the course proceeds towards Bloemfontein's famous Grey College, that well-known learning institution which boasts numerous sporting, literary and political luminaries. Ruben Kruger, the rugby player; Kepler Wessels, the cricketer; Sir Laurens van der Post, the writer and Bram Fischer, advocate for Nelson Mandela at the Rivonia Trial, are all famous sons of Grey College.

Onward and into Kingsway, the course passes the Zoo and Loch Logan Park with the waterfront close by. And there is the finish, at the Free State Athletics Stadium.

START: 7am - Witklip Dam, on the Sabie/White River Road

Route type: Circular. One of the best kept secrets in road running. Organised by Lowveld Country Club in Nelspruit, The Nedbank Om die Dammetjie 10/21km is run on gravel roads out in the forests of Mpumalanga. The 10km is an out and back course whilst the half marathon is a circular one with the first 13kms along the banks of the dam before it then puts in a 4km loop into the forest and then back to the waters edge. Both races start and finish on the dam wall. One thing guaranteed - no traffic hassles. Sabie Shufflers was for years considered the ultimate club away weekend - this one has to be even better. The dam is situated between White River and Sabie within easy access from both towns plus Nelspruit. Mark it down as a must do lowveld run.
