NRC’S ATHLETE IN SA SQUAD TO ATHLETICS WORLD CUP

SA Champion in the 800m and Nedbank Running Club athlete Tshepo Tshite has been selected as part of the South African squad for the 2018 Athletics World Cup to be held from 13-15 July in London.

Tshite, recently crowned SA Champion in the 800m, managed another great performance at the recent Liquid Telecom Athletix Grand Prix Series Meeting in Paarl where he placed 2nd in the Men’s 800m. It was yesterday announced that he has been included in the SA squad of 68 athletes (41 men and 27 women) for the 2018 Athletics World Cup.

South Africa is the only country from the Southern Hemisphere that will participate in the 2018 Athletics World Cup. ASA are one of only 8 nations invited to participate in the 2018 Athletics World Cup The 8 countries that will participate are China, France, Jamaica, Germany, Great Britain, Poland, South Africa, and United States of America.

ASA will announce a final team for the 2018 Athletics World Cup no later than 16 June 2018 to allow for approval by the ASA Board, travel arrangements, visa applications, etc.

As each country can only enter 1 athlete/relay team per event for the 2018 Athletics World Cup, the IAAF/ASA ranking list will be used to select the highest ranked athletes. The announced squad’s progress will be monitored over the next 3 months.
