Nedbank Green Dream development Teams show depth at SA Half Marathon Championships

David Manja, Sibusiso Nzima & Xolisa Tyali of Nedbank Running Club in the leading group. Despite the rainy and chilly conditions in Port Elizabeth on 25 July at the SA National Half Marathon Championships, the Nedbank Green Dream Team showed particular depth in having 19 athletes in the top 50 in the men’s and women’s races. Most coming from the Nedbank Development Teams
The Nedbank Green Dream Team was represented by 5 women and 14 men and the women definitely came to the fore with 2 athletes in the top 10 and 4 in the top 15. Best placed was Cornelia Joubert who finished 3rd in 72:37 (Nedbank Development Running Club Soweto), an improve of THREE minutes on her previous best of 75:31.
Nthombesintu Mfunzi of Nedbank Running Club Eastern Province was 8th in 1:17:51. Stalwart Mapaseka Makhanya finished just outside the top 10 with 11th in 1:19.36 (Nedbank Running Club Gauteng North) and Bulelwe Simae of Nedbank Running Club Western Province was 13th (1:20.49)
On the men’s front it was as expected the inform Xolisa Tyali who shone. The
25 year-old Nedbank Development Athlete from Soweto crossed the line in 6th with a time of 62:29 – 31 seconds shy of his best and his second best time ever over the 21.1km distance. As ever the Nedbank Running Club is extremely proud of its members and continues to strive to give South Africa’s athletes opportunities and to help grow the sport of Road Running.
